Overview
1.National University of Singapore (Chongqing) Research Institute (‘NUSRI-CQ’), registered and located in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, China, is a university-level research institute of the National University of Singapore (‘NUS’) and is established in 2020.
2.The NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD Programme is initiated and launched to extend the NUS research excellence beyond Singapore, and to promote research collaboration between Singapore and China. The key research excellences of NUSRI-CQ include Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, Information Engineering and Artificial Intelligence,  Modern Logistics, and Finance and Financial Risk Management.

3.The NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD programme is initiated with the following objectives:
a.To attract quality PhD students to NUSRI for impactful and applied research;
b.To promote academic-industry collaboration and technology innovation;
c.To train talents for Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing;
d.To build a research talent pool and strengthen NUSRI-CQ research in the long term.

Programme Structure
1.The NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD Programme is a four-year programme with a maximum candidature duration of five years.
2.Students under this programme shall register with an academic department in NUS Faculties/Schools and meet all requirements for admission, matriculation, progression and graduation set by the respective department and faculty. Once registered, students are not allowed to transfer to any other PhD programmes of NUS.
3.The students will spend the first year in NUS, subsequent two years in NUSRI-CQ, and the final year of research work in NUS. The students are required to complete faculties/schools’ requirements of courseworks, comprehensive qualifying examination (CQE), oral qualifying exam (OQE), seminars, and PhD dissertation before their oral defence. NUS Doctor Degrees will be awarded to the PhD students after successful defence.

4.Following the NUS scholarship regulations, international students under this programme are required to fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Assistantship Programme (GAP), which can be done in NUS and NUSRI-CQ.

Admission Requirements
The minimum entry requirements for the PhD programme are as follows:
At least 4-year Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree.
GRE, TOEFL or IELTS are required if medium of instruction at university is not English. (Please refer to the detailed requirements of respective faculty/school.)
Proficiency in Chinese is an advantage as the PhD student will carry out research at NUSRI-CQ in China for two years.

Application Time
A candidate is normally admitted at the beginning of each semester of the academic year i.e. at either August or January.

Scholarship Details
1.The NUSRI-CQ PhD Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who have been offered admission to the NUSRI-CQ-affiliated PhD Programme. The Scholarship consists of a monthly stipend and full tuition fees’ subsidy. Its quantum is the same as the normal NUS scholarship.
2.The Scholarship is administered and managed in accordance with the NUS rules and regulations.

Scholarship Bond
Recipients of the NUSRI-CQ PhD Scholarship are required to work in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area after graduation for at least two years. It could be through self-employment, employment under government agencies or any business entities, or continuing research works in research institutions, such as NUSRI-CQ.
